Therapy for Overthinkers, Perfectionists, and People-Pleasers in New York & New Jersey
You may be someone who is very self-aware and insightful, yet still feels stuck in cycles of anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, or intrusive thoughts.
You understand why you feel this way, but insight alone hasn’t been enough to change the patterns you find yourself stuck in.
You may recognize yourself in experiences like:
Replaying conversations long after they happen
Overanalyzing decisions because you’re afraid to get them wrong
Feeling constant pressure to perform or succeed
Getting stuck in intrusive or obsessive thought loops
Looking successful on the outside but feeling mentally exhausted on the inside
If this sounds familiar, therapy can help you understand the deeper patterns behind why this keeps happening — and help you learn how to respond to your thoughts, emotions, and relationships in a way that feels calmer, more confident, and more in control.
In our work together, we often focus on:
Understanding the patterns that keep repeating in your life
Changing the way you respond to anxiety and intrusive thoughts
Reducing overthinking and self-criticism
Building confidence and learning to trust yourself
Setting boundaries and reducing people-pleasing
Learning to tolerate uncertainty and uncomfortable emotions
Spending less time overthinking and more time actually living your life
Who I work with…
Many of my clients are thoughtful, responsible, high-achieving people who:
Overthink decisions and replay conversations
Hold themselves to very high standards
Feel responsible for other people’s feelings
Have difficulty saying no or setting boundaries
Feel anxious but don’t always understand why
Feel burnt out from trying to do everything right
Are very self-aware but still feel stuck
Want more than just talking about their week in therapy
How I work:
My Approach: Moving Beyond Insight to Real Change
Many of the people I work with are already very insightful.
They’ve spent years reflecting on their patterns and trying to
understand why they feel the way they do.
Insight is important — but insight alone doesn’t always make things feel easier or different.
In our work together, we focus on understanding the deeper beliefs and emotional patterns driving your anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, or self-doubt, and then learning how to respond to these patterns differently in real time.
Rather than just talking about these patterns, therapy focuses on actually changing them — how you respond to your thoughts, how you handle uncertainty, how you relate to yourself, and how you navigate relationships, stress, and expectations.
My work is grounded in evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and EMDR, which help us work with both thoughts and emotional experiences so you can build greater self-trust, resilience, and confidence in your life.
Therapy with me is…
-
I create a space where you can feel completely heard and validated. I take the time to understand your unique experiences, struggles, and goals so that our work together is meaningful and tailored to your needs. Therapy is a space where you don’t have to have everything figured out or explain yourself perfectly. Many of the people I work with are very hard on themselves and feel like they “should” be able to handle everything on their own.
In therapy, we work to understand your patterns without judgment and with curiosity, so you can begin to understand yourself in a more compassionate and realistic way rather than through self-criticism.
-
Change takes time, especially when the patterns you’re trying to change have been in place for many years. Therapy is not about forcing change quickly or pushing you before you’re ready.
We move at a pace that feels manageable for you, while still working toward meaningful change so that therapy feels both supportive and productive.
-
Many of my clients come to therapy already very insightful and self-aware. Therapy is not just about talking about your week or understanding why you feel the way you do — it’s about understanding patterns and then actively working to change them.
Sessions are often a combination of insight, learning new ways to respond to thoughts and emotions, and figuring out how to apply what we talk about to your real life outside of sessions.
-
Therapy is something we work on together. I will ask questions, offer observations, teach skills, and help you notice patterns you may not see on your own.
Therapy is not just you talking and me listening — it’s a collaborative process where we actively work toward helping you feel less stuck, less anxious, and more confident in yourself and your decisions.
I’m Kiera.
Therapy is not just about understanding yourself— it’s about changing patterns that are keeping you stuck.
I’m Kiera, a Manhattan-based Licensed Mental Health Counselor who works with thoughtful, high-achieving adults who want to understand themselves more deeply and create meaningful change in their lives.
My approach is collaborative, honest, and practical. In our work together, we don’t just talk about patterns — we work to understand where they come from and how to begin responding to them differently in real time.
Therapy can become a space where you build self-trust, develop a healthier relationship with your thoughts and emotions, and begin moving through life with more clarity, confidence, and direction.
Specializing in…
-
Anxiety often shows up as constant overthinking, worry about the future, difficulty relaxing, and feeling like your mind is always “on.” Many people with anxiety are very responsible, thoughtful, and used to being in control, which can make uncertainty especially uncomfortable. In therapy, we work on understanding the patterns driving your anxiety, learning how to tolerate uncertainty, and helping you feel less controlled by worry and overthinking.
-
Perfectionism often involves feeling like you’re never doing enough, being very hard on yourself, and fearing mistakes or disappointing others. While perfectionism can lead to success, it often also leads to anxiety, burnout, and constant self-criticism. In therapy, we work on reducing the pressure you put on yourself, changing perfectionistic thinking patterns, and helping you build a healthier relationship with achievement, mistakes, and self-worth.
-
People-pleasing often develops from a fear of disappointing others, conflict, or rejection, and can lead to difficulty setting boundaries and prioritizing your own needs. Many people who struggle with this feel responsible for other people’s emotions and feel guilty saying no. In therapy, we work on building boundaries, reducing guilt, and helping you feel more confident prioritizing yourself without feeling like you are letting others down.
-
OCD tendencies often involve intrusive thoughts, excessive doubt, reassurance seeking, checking, mental reviewing, or feeling responsible for preventing something bad from happening. These patterns can be exhausting and confusing, especially when you logically know your fears don’t fully make sense but still feel very real. In therapy, we work on changing your relationship to uncertainty, reducing compulsive behaviors, and helping you feel less controlled by your thoughts and fears.
I help people understand themselves, change unhelpful patterns, and feel more confident and in control of their lives.
